Bangs That Go Bang! These Rainbow Colored Bangs Are Pure Magic

Hair trends coming from Instagram have been all the rage lately. There are so many we can barely keep up! But that’s all about hairstyles… What about your bangs, huh?

Well what about them, you might ask. And Caitlin Ford, a twenty-eight-year-old hair color specialist from St. Louis, Missouri, will say: turn them into a rainbow!

She’s been rocking her rainbow bangs since August 2017 and isn’t turning back. And why would she? Look at how good it looks!

“I came up with the idea for these [bangs] at the beginning of last summer. I had been wanting to do something a little extra with my hair that would still keep it reasonably healthy. So, I decided to add a design to my bangs,” Ford says.

The first time she decided to turn her bangs into a rainbow, though, she didn’t dare do it herself. Instead, Ford recruited fellow hairstylist Kristina Cheeseman. The results were, for lack of a better word, iridescent.

Thankfully, they didn’t keep the magic to themselves but instead shared it with the world on Instagram. Here’s an instructional video:

RAINBOW FRINGE Here is the skinny on how I place my rainbow bangs! Because my bangs are C shaped I try to follow the perimeter of how they are cut as best as possible with my sub sections so these lines lay nicely and not too square. I use conditioner towards the base of my bangs so I can control the direction that the hair in each slice is going. Since this colored section lays over my natural brown hair the color is broken up in a way that gives it an oil-slick feel. I use @Pravana Neon Yellow, @limecrimemakeup Anime w/ a drop of Pravana Blue, and Limecrime Valentine on my hair! #thebtcteam #btconeshot_colorvideo18 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #behindthechair #modernsalon #americansalon #esteticausa #beautylaunchpad #stlouishair #hairstlouis #stlouishairstylist #hairstyliststlouis #alternativefashion #fashionisart #hairideas #rainbowbangs #limecrime #pravana

“Because my bangs are ‘C-shaped’ I try to follow the perimeter of how they’re cut as best as possible,” Caitlin explained.

She uses the following hair dyes to achieve the rainbow look: Lime Crime Unicorn Hair in Anime with a drop of Pravana Blue, Pravana Neon Yellow, and Lime Crime Unicorn Hair in Valentine.

Unicorn hair. The name fits!

“I used white watercolor paper in this video because it makes it easier to see what I’m doing,” Ford continued. “Typically I just use foil, but the process is the same.” Once the hair is neatly spread out across the paper, she begins by applying the blue dye at the ends, then proceeds to apply yellow and finally, red.

The more I stare, the more her bangs remind me of traffic lights, though. I guess it all comes down to perspective.

Rainbow Bang on my hair bestie @caitlinfordhair! We’ve been prepping all week for #thebtcshow! A year ago I messaged Caitlin on Instagram and asked her about the salon she worked at, and she helped me get in the door with an interview! This has probably been the best year of my life and I feel really fortunate to have met and grown with inspiring people that have motivated me and took me in easily. @caitlinfordhair @caitlintyczka and @evanturnerhair are always working on their days off and always pushing themselves to the max to create beautiful works of art. It’s motivating and inspiring. Thanks to our boss man @joshnicholshair, unlike other bosses, he gives us a space to create! Everyone needs their tribe to push themselves to be the best versions of themselves! Find those people! You’ll see @caitlintyczka @caitlinfordhair and me in Austin! Unfortunately, party boy @evanturnerhair will be staying home until the HEF event in LA BABY! ✨ #btcready #behindthechair

If you want to keep the colors vivid you need to redo the process every four weeks, however. Ford also bleaches her bangs every eight weeks, to do a fresh start in a sense. The light hair background receives the rainbow colors better.

“I had the opportunity to meet Fergie recently and she told me my bangs were everything, which was definitely one of the highlights of my hair life!” Caitlin Ford wrote proudly.

That’s… Congratulations, I guess?

“People stop me all the time and say that they love my color. It’s the best business card for me, because when people compliment my hair I tell them I’m a hairstylist. I also think having fun colors in my own hair inspires my clients to do fun things with their look.”

But she’s right about that one. if you want a competent hairstylist, pay Caitlin Ford a visit! She is, after all, a rainbow-colored unicorn – and those are rare.
